Role Purpose
The Disability & Leave Management Senior Specialist is the centralized point of contact for pet parents, volunteers, LGBTQ, Management, Leadership, administration vendor inquiries about the Disability Management program. The program provides end-to-end case management. The incumbent will facilitate leave management and the interactive process (IP) for reasonable accommodation according to state and federal law and the policies and practices of BJC HealthCare’s DLM program with the goal of delivering a frictionless workforce experience. The following certifications are preferred: CPDM, CDMS, CCM, Certified Vocational Expert, Rehabilitation Counselor, or any other vocational professional whose expertise meets the needs of the team.
ADA Disability Specialist
Responsibilities
Use a working knowledge of ADA/ADAAA, FMLA, USERRA, (etc.) and BJC policies and practices for all requests related to leave management, temporary and permanent accommodations, and medical separations by engaging with employees, medical providers, supervisors, HR representatives, Legal, vendors, and other stakeholders as appropriate for comprehensive case management. These activities require demonstrated case management experience from intake to closure.
Review medical information for leave management and temporary and permanent accommodation requests; coordinate return to work planning, evaluate and analyze essential job functions, develop transitional work assignments, identify and implement permanent accommodations, lead the reassignment process when applicable, and monitor implemented accommodations for effectiveness.
Prepare correspondence to medical providers for clarified/additional information relevant to the IP; process medical separations when a reasonable accommodation cannot be identified through the good faith efforts of the interactive process.
Build strong working relationships across the organization; maintain regular contact with employees, supervisors, and other key stakeholders regarding progress and status as appropriate to the case; answer employee questions on benefits, pay, leaves of absence, ADA, etc., and ensure exceptional customer experience by responding timely and accurately; use strong interpersonal, analytical, conflict resolution, and influencing skills to collaborate in the IP and in the resolution of escalated issues; the work requires excellent written and verbal communication skills, listening ability, and attention to detail. Serves as the subject matter expert for leaves of absence and ADA reasonable accommodations.
Document all aspects of case coordination in the system of record to ensure proper reporting, review, compliance, and audit; work independently; be adaptable to changes in the work environment; manage competing demands, deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events; manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
